Megan Philips, ACSW

Megan is an associate clinical social worker (#103224) providing services under the supervision of Dr. Max Maisel, PhD (#31101) and Elizabeth Maisel, LCSW (#77776). Megan earned her Masters in Social Work from California State University, Monterey Bay in Seaside, California.

Before joining Beachfront Anxiety Specialists, Megan’s career spanned the fields of medical social work and school-based, community mental health. There, she developed her passion for using actionable, science-backed strategies to help children, teens, and young adults move through the often debilitating symptoms that accompany OCD and anxiety disorders. As a pediatric and young-adult focused OCD clinician at Beachfront Anxiety Specialists, Megan values supporting her clients and their families in making positive changes, while providing a calm, centered, and compassionate healing space to help her clients feel safe and understood. She strives to work along side her clients to help them overcome anxiety or OCD by finding their inner strength and bravery, and allowing them to overcome any worries, compulsions, or stressors for the rest of their life.

When a child or teen develops OCD, anxiety, or an OCD-related concern, the effects can be devastating for the entire family. Megan prides herself on not only supporting her younger clients, but also on being able to effectively work with the family system to help parents and loved ones of children with OCD or anxiety feel confident in being able to lovingly and effectively help their child overcome anxiety. She is mindful of the difficulties and hesitation that can occur when younger individuals enter therapeutic spaces, and always strives to meet children and families where they are at, all while gently guiding them towards their goals. In addition to OCD and anxiety, Megan has a subspecialty of helping individuals manage Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) such as compulsive hair pulling or skin picking, and Tics/Tourette Syndrome. Other concerns Megan is passionate about working with include grief, emotion-regulation concerns, and identity-development.

Megan uses evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to address clients’ needs. Each treatment plan is created individually to best address the client’s issues at hand. Megan aims to provide a safe space that allows children, adolescents, and their families to work through life’s challenges.
