Barbara Heisner, AMFT, APCC

Barbara received her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from Pepperdine University in 2026. Barbara is a Wyoming native and experienced firsthand the state’s lack of access to mental healthcare resources, fueling her dedication to the field. Before pivoting to pursue a path of helping others through therapy, Barbara worked in the legal industry. Prior to working as an associate therapist, Barbara completed her clinical practicum working with a variety of clients with various mental health concerns. Before that, Barbara worked with teenagers at an inpatient mental health residential treatment facility. Barbara presented at the 2024 International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) Annual Online Conference as an individual with lived experience and again at the 2026 IOCDF Annual Conference in her capacity as a clinician, teaching new OCD clinicians how to appropriately implement ERP.

Clients describe Barbara as someone they easily connect with, allowing them to open up in ways they have not been able to with previous clinicians. Along with evidence-based treatment, Barbara believes the clinician-client relationship and alliance is paramount to successful treatment outcomes.

In her free time, Barbara enjoys reading, all things related to music, going to the beach, and soaking up the beauty of Southern California in general. Barbara loves spending time with her black Labrador and is also a diehard St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.

Barbara is a registered associate marriage and family therapist and associate professional clinical counselor (AMFT No. 163820, APCC No. 22856) practicing under the supervision of Max Maisel, PhD (PSY No. 31101). Barbara is a passionate advocate for the proper diagnosis of OCD; proper evidenced-based treatment of OCD, OCD-related disorders, and anxiety disorders; and access to the same. Barbara specializes in using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and an overall humanistic, person-centered approach to therapy, making sure treatment is tailored to each of her clients.
