Why Anxiety feels so bad

Why anxiety feels so bad and what you can do about it. Experiential avoidance is the technical term for when we try to fight or struggle against our internal state. Anxiety brings about incredibly uncomfortable sensations, so it makes all the sense in the world why we might not like to feel that way. However, when we fight, avoid, or try to make it go away (i.e. experientially avoid), we paradoxically make our anxiety much worse! There are many ways to "lean into" your anxiety and allow it to be. In this video, I talk about a powerful tool called mindful observation.

Dealing with Negative Thoughts

One of the main purposes of the brain is to pull us into the stories it comes up with (i.e. thoughts) and to have us believe everything it says is true and important. However, our mind can be TOO good at doing this, to the point where it's far too easy to get stuck in negative thinking styles. If "turning off" your thoughts doesn't work (let's be honest, don't we all wish we could do this at times), there must be another solution!

How to Stop a Panic Attack

Panic attacks can be some of the most uncomfortable, frightening, and difficult experiences people can have.

Symptoms include pounding heart, muscle tension, dry mouth, feelings of dread, dizziness, sweating palms, depersonalization/dissociation, chest pain, and tingling/cold hands or feet. People frequently worry that they will die, go crazy, lose touch with reality, or faint. The trick to overcoming panic is recognizing the tricks anxiety plays on us and learning how to respond differently to our body's natural reaction to perceived danger.
